Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the Problem-Based Learning model on the mathematical critical thinking skills of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 10 Langsa. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample consisted of 32 students, including 16 students in the experimental class and 16 students in the control class. Data were collected through a mathematical critical thinking skills test administered during the pretest and posttest stages. Data analysis involved normality tests, homogeneity tests, an Independent Sample t-test, and effect size analysis. The mean posttestscore of the experimental class was 84.38, while the control class obtained a mean score of 69.06. The Independent Sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.004 (<0.05). The effect size value was 1.09, which was categorized as large. The findings indicate that the Problem-Based Learning model has a significant effect on students’ mathematical critical thinking skills.
