DEVELOPING BASIC DANCE MOVEMENT SKILLS IN GRADE XI STUDENTS OF STATE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL 4 CILEGON
This study aims to describe the implementation of the Suzuki Method in developing basic dance movement skills among eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 4 Cilegon. The research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive phenomenological method to gain an in-depth understanding of the learning process, students’ skill development, and factors influencing the implementation of the method. The participants consisted of 28 eleventh-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and field notes. Data analysis followed the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings revealed that the Suzuki Method was implemented through several stages, namely method introduction, basic training, movement practice, evaluation, and reflection. The method emphasizes repetitive practice, discipline, concentration, body control, and center-of-gravity strengthening, which contributed to improvements in coordination, balance, flexibility, spatial awareness, and musicality. Furthermore, students demonstrated increased self-confidence, collaboration skills, and learning motivation in dance education. Although challenges related to differences in physical abilities and concentration levels were identified, teachers addressed them through individualized guidance and group practice. Therefore, the Suzuki Method proved effective in supporting the development of students’ basic dance movement skills and enhancing the overall quality of dance learning.
